How did you get into life coaching?

I once heard that the best way to know what you want to do with your life is to pay attention to what you read. This doesn’t include the news articles you scan to stay on top of current events. So, I picked up three newspapers – The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today – and looked for any articles that excited me. There was not a one. Shortly after that, I looked at my book shelf and the collection of self-improvement, new age philosophy and spiritual books I had amassed ever since I had a salary to buy books. I was initially ashamed of this collection of books, especially during my more youthful party days. However, denying my passion for it on this fateful day would mean turning my back on what I knew to be true. I could no longer pretend it didn’t exist. It was a leap of faith but I figured if these authors could do it, so could I.
While trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with this “life coach” title that I barely understood, I read Martha Beck’s book called The Four Day Win. At the time, I was an emotional eater that had never figured out how to get off the ride that goes something like this – gain 10 pounds, hate my body, lose 10 pounds, still feel unhappy, and gain 15 pounds.
I loved everything I read and decided she was the right teacher for me. I trained with and am certified by Oprah’s very own Martha Beck, who is a monthly columnist for O Magazine and a bestselling author.
